For old time's sake, a vampire, with the likeness of Epica's Simone Simons:
[Aurelia Elisabeth Crane née Connelly]
b. 22 April 1778
turned 17 July 1801
A first generation American, born of Irish parentage amidst the fighting of the American War of Independence, Aurelia has lived through some extraordinary events. She made it to her 23rd birthday before encountering vampires; like many others after the Declaration of Independence, Aurelia traveled westward with her family, believing with a patriotic certainty that the country would expand further. One evening, somewhere in the area that is now the state of Ohio, the Cranes found themselves worse for the wear and decided to make camp by a stream. Unbeknownst to them, they were camped near a nest of vampires looking for females to add to their coven, and in the night Aurelia was taken and turned. They left her family be, and in the morning her parents, husband, and six-year-old daughter Abigail awoke to find only a trail of blood left behind. Believing that she had been kidnapped by Native Americans, the family stayed in the area and in their own way aided in the 1802 statehood of Ohio.
Aurelia mourned her inability to see her family and left the coven in the winter of 1803 when the coven's members moved westward. She disguised herself, becoming a school teacher to be near Abigail, something that was easy considering the necessity of a schoolroom and the lack of sunlight that came with studying. She entertained thoughts of turning her husband and daughter, but after another ten years of watching Abigail grow in life and becoming a young married woman herself, and then seeing the happiness her husband had found with another woman, Aurelia decided it was time to leave and headed westward to find her coven. She shed the ideals of her former life and finally lived the unlife of a vampire, keeping only her name as a reminder.
She lived through the Civil War and secretly aided the Union, testing her skills as a vampire by ambushing Confederate camps at night and feeding information to Union soldiers. In some cases she dressed as a man and fought beside them in battle, stretching the limits of control, speed, and accuracy among the mortal men.
Aurelia continued to hone her vampiric gifts in solitude throughout the decades, discovering special abilities in astral projection and clairvoyance. Using these gifts, in 1933 she finally located her old coven roaming around the Arizona/Mexico border. After days of running from her temporary home in Durango, Colorado, she was highly disappointed when she made contact. They were lazy, sloppy, and were viciously attacking whoever they could find alone, drinking for murder without a plan and torturing their victims. They were wasteful and left a trail of blood wherever they had been. It disgusted Aurelia; she too hunted humans, but made it as quick and painless as possible, viewing them as nourishment and frequently knocked out her victims, drained a few pints of blood, and left them to wake up later unsure what had happened. After spending a few years trying to teach the coven to cover their tracks and choose victims better, it became clear that they would not change, and she took it upon herself to rid the Earth of them. Time after time she had found them torturing a victim and had to end it quickly, but she planned this carefully for maximum length of torture; let's just say many holes had burned through them by the time they were done for.
Aurelia Crane currently makes her home in New York City as a costume designer for a theater production company specializing in plays like Oklahoma!; her knowledge in period clothing is invaluable. She finds the city to be an easy place to find victims willing to believe they had simply blacked out, and her job and underground flat the perfect way to stay out of the sun. Within ten years, however, she must consider moving on; her neighbors and coworkers are starting to notice her unchanging looks.
